Dubuque County Basketball Academy strives not only to be a premiere basketball program, but a youth developmental organization. DCBA coaches, staff and contributors all firmly believe that basketball can serve as a platform for developing leadership, teamwork, dealing with failure, dealing with success, facing adversity, goal-setting, and much more. Our club does not exist to provide your son/daughter with instant gratification. Through sports as in life we learn by putting ourselves in uncomfortable situations. That is where our work as a basketball academy aligns with our goal to develop the youth to become accomplished adults in Dubuque County.
With DCBA you are starting your child on the path towards a better future on and off the court. With a culture that values hard work and honesty we can happily say that we strive to put your son/daughter in uncomfortable situations. We know that by exposing them to these types of environments it will lead to growth and development as stated in our Mission Statement above. Everything we do is with the end-goal in mind: starting on the Junior High team, starting on Varsity and ultimately sending our players off to college.
Although we strive to be winners on the court, at the end of the day DCBA does not value a trophy, medal or t-shirt. We value players executing and achieving team goals. We look for improvements practice by practice, tournament by tournament. We don't judge our success at the end of the season by how many trophies we have (or don't have) in the case. We judge our season by the growth we have seen from the first practice to the last tournament. We look to hear that our players aren't just excelling on the court but taking the lessons we teach them into the classroom, family, and job. Basketball acts as a great life teacher and with DCBA your child will be given the chance to learn these life lessons in a competitive, up-tempo environment.

What we do
We currently work with 100+ kids in and around the Dubuque County area from Kindergarten - High School. We are proud to be made up mostly of kids around this area and are grateful for opportunity to travel around the midwest exposing our kids to new places, teams, and competition.
What we expect from our players
We expect our players to devote time to the game. With practice comes progress. Repetition = success. Do not expect to see your child get better after signing up if he/she is not putting in any work on their own. We are not miracle workers.
We expect our players to be at every practice and game. If there is an attendance issue do not expect to see your child to play as much as other kids.
We expect understanding. This is a competitive team focused on doing what it takes to compete. Playing time is determined on performance, attitude, effort, and what you provide in helping the team win.

Our Club
We play in 8 - 9 tournaments a season.
Team practice at least once a week as well as one skills/conditioning session a week.
Travel throughout the midwest. Locations vary by team, most teams average no more than 3 hour drive to tournaments.
Fees are discussed at tryouts. Payment plans are accepted throughout the season. Once you have committed to a team, there are no refunds issued. Fees include everything throughout the season.
Gold/Black teams: in the case where we have two teams in an age group the split will be simply based on commitment and skill level.
